The selected range
Making your choice easier
What is the selected range?
The Trustees have worked with their adviser to come up with a small range of investment options they think are appropriate if you don't want to invest in the Trustee selected option. The selected range gives you access to the main asset classes without giving you so many options it becomes difficult to choose.
Remember, your employer isn’t recommending that the options in the selected range are suitable for everyone.
Any choices you make now aren’t set in stone. You're in control and you can change your investments if you want – so you’re not committing yourself forever.
If you’re not sure which options are right for you, you should get help from a financial adviser.
Lifestyle options and non-lifestyle options
The selected range includes lifestyle options that adjust your investments automatically as you near your chosen retirement date. Non-lifestyle options are a range of individual funds that you can choose from.
Things to be aware of
- Before you choose an investment option, make sure you understand its aims and risks
- As with any investment, the value can go down as well as up, and may be worth less than what was paid in
When you invest your pension in a lifestyle profile, your money is initially invested in a fund or funds that have the potential to grow over the long term. When you get closer to retirement, some of your money will gradually and automatically move into funds that are more suitable as you approach retirement.
If you choose a lifestyle profile, you can't invest in any other lifestyle profile or funds. Lifestyle profiles aren't suitable for everyone. For example, they may not be suitable if you don't want to buy an annuity when you retire. Also, they may not be suitable if you want to buy an annuity that’s linked to inflation - or if you don’t plan to retire at your chosen retirement date.
These lifestyle profiles might be a good choice if:
- You don't want to be actively involved in managing your investments
- You'd like an option that automatically moves your investments into funds that are more appropriate as you approach retirement
- You want to buy an annuity when you retire
Available lifestyle profiles
- Getting ready for income drawdown Lifestyle Profile
- Getting ready to cash out Lifestyle Profile
- Getting ready to purchase an annuity Lifestyle Profile
For more details on all the Trustees' selected investment options read Becoming a member of the Telefónica Pension Plan (PDF, 110KB).
Telefónica and the Trustees have also selected a range of individual funds that you can choose from. If you select any of these, you should spend some time reviewing them regularly to make sure they stay on track to help you get the retirement income you want. Remember, you can't invest in more than 12 funds at one time.
